Jadayupara is a rock formation in Kollam district. The government has drawn up plans to develop this area as an eco-tourism spot. It has appointed the director - ecotourism for the preparation of a detailed plan for the project. The initial survey is over and the consultant, Kumar Group, has given an estimate for the first phase of development of the scheme. The whole programme envisages to develop this as a tourism centre giving importance to pilgrimage tourism focusing on the Jadayu episode in Ramayana, eco-adventure facilities for rock climbing, trekking to the rock top etc and also rural tourism.

Various developmental efforts are needed here such as an approach road from the Main Central Road, development of parking space, construction of information centre, toilets, refreshment counters and a creation of a welcome ambience through landscaping at the entrance. Apart from this there is a need for a walkway with easy gradient to take the tourist to the top of the rock. There is also a need for pavilions at different levels so as to provide the resting areas for tourists which will also allow them to view the scenic beauty of the valleys down below.
The most interesting plan envisaged is the sculpture of Jadayu on the rock top, which as far as possible will be done so as to merge with the existing rock shape. There also plans to have a food court, ethnic product market place etc near the entrance portal. The ecotourism department has stated that once the first phase is complete, further developments and attractions will be planned.
